Basic tips for professional clothing: safety and hygiene against COVID 19

Do you know all of the health recommendations in terms of professional clothing to combat COVID-19?

During these first few weeks of easing lockdown, there are many workers from so-called non-essential sectors who have had to gradually start returning to normality, going back to work and combating this dangerous virus on the front line.

Most of them have done so with a long list of doubts around safety and the hygiene measures they should take to reduce the risk of infection as much as possible. At Primer, as a company specialising in machines for industrial laundries, we thought it was worth reviewing some of the recommendations published by the Spanish Ministry of Health for professional clothing. Hygiene, safety, precaution, and other similar words are those heard most often from the government’s official bodies, and also during press conferences in recent weeks.

Good practices for professional clothing:hygiene, safety and caution in laundry areas  

  • It is advisable to keep the laundry area clean and disinfected since it should convey a feeling of cleanliness.
  • The frequency of cleaning the premises or facilities should be increased, with particular attention and more time spent on the critical points. 
  • Bear in mind the capacity of the facilities and avoid direct contact between users, always ensuring safe distances are maintained.
  • Adjust the washing programmes to achieve the maximum level of hygiene in each wash. With the new T2, it is very simple and quick to do.
  • Place signage and posters with instructions for use, safety and hygiene for all users.
  • Clean the floor with a water solution containing disinfectant.

Safety protocols for self-service laundry users 

  • It is important to wash hands frequently with soap and water.
  • It is important to cover the mouth and nose with the elbow when coughing or sneezing. 
  • A distance of one metre should be kept between users.
  • Touching the eyes, nose and mouth should be avoided since it is the main source of infection.
  • It is vitally important to keep the surfaces that are in contact with hands clean and provide areas with special detergent for this. 
  • The use of disinfectant gel should be compulsory and close to the entrance, or in a space prior to the use of the machine.
  • If a user has symptoms of being infected, it is important they do not enter the facilities.  

We are on the verge of beating this pandemic, and we should all take on the responsibility of rigorously continuing with these basic hygiene measures as a society. This is the only way we will be able to move on and start to look towards the future with hope. Remember… cleanliness, precaution and professionalism are the key!
